Worn

In the evenings Rag Doll would sit out on her rickety wornout porch and play her wornout fiddle to the jubilation of her critter friends.

Unfold

Every night at bedtime when my sisters and I were young my dad used to confabulate these amazingly convoluted and fantastical ongoing adventure sagas, most often involving an intrepid little girl thwarting the nefarious schemes of some mean monster or bad witch. Night after night we'd listen enraptured as the labyrinthine plots unfolded. Thanks Dad!

Tagged

The incomparably talented Alina Chau tagged me.I want to play and so 7 things:

1.I love the Hudson River and often dream about it.

2.When I was 7 my sisters(5 & 4)and I were summoned to the police station because a neighbor(Sammy Say) had accused us of stealing cherries from his cherry tree. The policewoman showed us a jail cell "Yes, that's where they put the bad women" and I remember its walls were completely covered in graffiti. Later my sisters and I would take turns telling "Sammy Say" jokes before we'd go to sleep at night usually involving bathroom humour of one sort or another.

3.I attended school at West Point Military Academy - 7th and 8th grade that is. We were not allowed to wear makeup. Once General Westmoreland's daughter wore white lipstick to school. Big Scandal!

4.I flunked out of High School because I kept going to the park next to our school. It was a magnificent place with a giant chessboard and miniature Russian Orthodox chapel. Later I was accepted at university. Clerical error perhaps?

5.I like those wax lips they sell around Halloween.

6.My dad is from North Dakota and my mom is from the Bronx.

7.I like to swim in the Delaware.

And so I tag Donna

Opinion

Rag Doll didn't cotton to the hifalutin trappins' of big city life. She had herself a mind to skedaddle back to her shanty in Possum Holler away from all the commotion.

Who says hours spent watching a certain TV show amounts to naught.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Squirrels - you gotta love them and all their nimble antics. Although some would refer to these acrobatic critters as "tree rats" on account of their bird feeder thievery.

Memories

This summer I was blissfully reunited with my beautiful gorgeous(inside and out) friend Patti(now Trish)who I hadn't seen in 37 years. She and her husband live outside of Seattle with a 21 year old feline named Tut plus seven feral cats. And a raccoon who kept sticking its head through the cat door.

It's truly mind boggling how it was possible to pick up just where we left off. The last time we were together Trish and I were on a frenetic cross country excursion. At 17 and 18 neither of us knew how to drive since we had met in Germany where it was a complex task to obtain a license. We had arranged a ride from Seattle to Denver with this group of people who included an ex Roman Catholic priest, someone who was recently released from a mental hospital and a person who was a dwarf. At one point in Idaho perhaps the guy who had just gotten out of the mental hospital veered off the road and kept driving to the very edge of a cliff. I started laughing and then so did every one else. Now I was thinking did this really happen? And Trish confirmed it did.

Electricity

As I was growing up in the 50's in a large family my parents unabashedly referred to the TV set as the "electronic babysitter" and made liberal use of it. Our TV set was made of blonde wood and had skinny spindly legs. I loved it dearly. Many happy hours were spent in its enticing glow.
The first thing I ever remember seeing on it
was Gerald McBoing Boing At 3 years of age I recall how intensely sad it was when Gerald was alone in the swirling snow.
