Play

The right to play is every child's perogative. Play is a vital and intrinsic part of young children's intellectual, social and emotional development. Yet the powers that be seem to be conspiring to eliminate all freeplay time from a child's day. Structuring every moment of a child's day with one-dimensional rote memorization tasks while neglecting play and those activities which require generation of ideas and use of imagination results in diminished learning. So go play.

Oh what fun lines - I love how they are all sort of shaggy looking. The colors are so wonderful. I adore the little girl in the jungle gym. Amazing as always!!

I love this illustration - it really does say "play." I agree with your post as well. Children are so programmed with activities and school work that they don't often have a chance to simply play and feel free and happy. I think it's so important to allow children to have unfettered free time to simply be themselves and have fun:>

I really like what you say here. Especially now, that I work partially in child´s education. They often have completely designed days. Also the work force demands are becoming more and more challenging, so that parents feel guilty if they don´t do their best to have their child take part in all kinds of extrac curriculum tasks, to prepare them for the future. A child´s life is about the NOW, but they are all trained for the THEN. A lot of pressure is put on them.

Your illustration is sweet! And I especially enjoy the "match" one up there. Very original.
