Mask

Well, daahling I've posted this before. But be a dear now, won"t you, and forgive me this itsy-bitsy oversight. I've been frightfully overstretched and this seemed simply too too apropos. Thanks ever so much!

Might

If Sunshine Girl had realized she would be placed on the shelf betwixt the infamous gingham dog and calico cat she might have reconsidered.

Thanksgiving

Ragdoll"s friend was overjoyed and surprised (plus relieved) when Ragdoll prepared a scrumptious feast of specially roasted acorns.

"Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving" Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I'm just grateful for a holiday that is at least relatively noncommercial.

Clear

It came upon a midnight clear that glorious song of old from angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold.

Smoke

Ragdoll lived way way out in the country. She was down to earth and grew all her own food and loved to bake her own bread.

"The falling leaves drift by my window, the autumn leaves of red and gold." My dad used to sing us that song - so bittersweet.

Farm

My youngest son used to be obsessed with scarecrows. He was always asking me to draw him pictures of scarecrows. So this goofy little guy is dedicated to him.

Play

The right to play is every child's perogative. Play is a vital and intrinsic part of young children's intellectual, social and emotional development. Yet the powers that be seem to be conspiring to eliminate all freeplay time from a child's day. Structuring every moment of a child's day with one-dimensional rote memorization tasks while neglecting play and those activities which require generation of ideas and use of imagination results in diminished learning. So go play.

Felt like adding this bonus image at the last minute.

Jack's mother slaved away just to keep their humble little cottage clean. And was Jack grateful?

Jungle

I have just returned from the jungle (cloud forest to be exact) and my mind is still reverberating from all the spectacularly gorgeous sights. I had some trepidations about visiting Costa Rica in June anticipating heat but the cloud forest is cool and moist. What a thrill to see monkeys in the treetops and tons of hummingbirds.

Sorry

Albert immediately regretted venturing into the clutches of the great beast.

The Devil

A lttle addendum here to my last post concerning the devil. I believe there to be a devil but I believe obssession with devils or even angels for that matter is wrongheaded. I think the focus should rather be on God and we needn't obsess about the other stuff because if you are a Christian "greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world" He being the Holy Spirit. Just wanted to clarify. Thanks for bearing with me.

Angels and Devils

When I was a little kid living in Indiana there was this bump on the sidewalk where the concrete was all crumbled. Some kid told a friend and I this was because the devil was coming out from under the ground. At first we were very excited-Yah,let's see the devil- and tore into the sidewalk grabbing chunks and pounding to see if we could break it up more. Then we got really really scared and proceeded to reassemble the shattered pieces. Who knows if a couple of intrepid 4 year olds had not averted a major satanic eruption. So if you happen to be casually strolling down the sidewalk and you see a bump and it's all sort of crumbly like. You know what's going on.

Spots

"They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain" A Peaceable Kingdom vignette here.
So many creatures sport spots - frogs, fawns, bugs. I perhaps chose the most obvious. I trust all who celebrate Easter had a blessed one. "if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed" Alleluia.

Feet

For an entire summer my friend Marilou and I went without shoes. Now mind you we lived in a city( we were military brats living in Germany) and that means we walked the city streets, rode on subways, streetcars and buses sans shoes and we're not talking sandals here . We revelled in our calloused, cinder embedded feet as badges of freedom. We could walk on broken glass our feet were so tough. Later Marilou would be deported as a bad example of an American how I eluded that fate I'll never know. Marilou now resides in an abandoned trailer in upstate Maine. She wears Birkenstocks all winter (with unmatched socks I might add) even in 10 feet of snow.

Insect

What could possibly be the rationale behind this disturbing practice of attiring one's offspring in insect garb? No doubt naive ill-informed parents claim that such getup is "cute"and see no harm in it at all. But the very young vulnerable child utterly impressionable is apt to develope inalterable insect-like traits after exposure to such invidious stimuli. I have observed several cases firsthand and vouch for the dire nature of this concern.

Song

I still think of my sister Nancy as the little redheaded girl darting about. My other sister Cindy wrote a song when she was 7 years old. It was called "Pilly, Pilly, Polly, Poo". It went like this: "Oh, Pilly Pilly Polly Poo Oh Pilly Pilly Polly Poo When the answer is spread I suppose I'll be dead Said Pilly Pilly Polly Poo Verse 2 When I'm in the grave
I'll be with Dave Verse 3 When I'm in heaven I'll be 97 " Did you pick up the Death theme? All this to a very jaunty and rousing tune, and we still sing it. A bit morbid for a 7 year old but Cindy was a deep thinker.

Chair

This is from a little book I made for my youngest son over 10 years ago. He was obsessed with hammers and carried one around wherever he went. In the story this boy hammers his whole house down but then he discovers he can also make things with a hammer and not just break things (a bit of moralising here). So he proceeds to build an entire city singlehandedly including apartment buildings, supermarkets and bridges. Well anyway he liked it and I told it over and over and over again. This is cut paper and felt tip pen which I put into Photoshop today to clean up. My very first TV show I ever remember seeing was Gerald McBoing-Boing.

Glamour

For dress-up glitter is an essential, also anything sequined, shiny or jewel encrusted. Fingernail and toenail polish, particularly if they are sparkly, loom large. The more frilly and girly-girl the better. And if you can get ahold of some makeup, apply heavily.

E is for Effort

Miss Egglestein gave Ermatrude an E for effort on her Time Machine/Marble Ramp for although the Time Machine sent one back in time by measurable nanoseconds the Marble Ramp itself was rather slow and clumsy and contained a fair number of glitches.
